Films featuring Leila Hatami unspool in Canada

In special screenings in Canada, two films featuring Iranian mega actress Leila Hatami unspools.

Noted Iranian actor Leila Hatami has attended special screenings in Canada featuring two films of the mega star.  

The special events were held in Canadian city of Toronto on July 22-23, July with the Iranian actress in attandance and two of her films 'What's the Time in Your World?' and 'Leila' screened. 

Cheif of CineIran festival, Amir Ganjavi, was quoted by the media as saying that both screenings drew big crowds," adding, premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne honored Hatami and her husband Ali Mosaffa for their cinematic achievements over the past 20 years.

Ganjavi noted that Hatami's acting master class was also held in Toronto on July 23.

Hatami is the daughter of renowned Iranian director Ali Hatami and has appeared in a number of her father’s films, even as a child actress, including ‘Hezar Dastan’ (1987), ‘Kamal-ol-Molk’ (1984) and ‘The Devoted’ (1992).

She went to Switzerland and embarked on her studies in electrical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. Just two years later, she shifted her field of study to French Literature. Hatami returned to Iran in 1996 when her father became ill.

Her first appearance in a leading role was in the film ‘Leila’ (1997).

Hatami has starred in numerous movies and won many prestigious awards throughout her successful career.

Appearing in movies such as ‘Sheida’ (1999), ‘The Deserted Station’ (2002), ‘Season Salad’ (2005), ’40 Years Old’ (2010), ‘A Separation’ (2011) , ‘There Are Things You Don’t Know’ (2011) and ‘The Orange Suit’ (2011) scored the actress nominations of Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Fajr International Film Festival. 

In 2012, she was nominated for the Asian Film Award and People's Choice Award at the Asian Film Awards for her role in ‘A Separation’ (2011).

Leila Hatami was a member of the Jury of Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Czech Republic) in 2006.
